The IAFF Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Treatment and Recovery is in-network with Kaiser Permanente. If you are an IAFF member with a Kaiser plan, it may help pay for addiction and behavioral health treatment at our Upper Marlboro, Maryland, facility. What you pay depends on your plan, your deductible and whether Kaiser needs to approve care first.
How Kaiser Permanente Coverage Works
Kaiser Permanente is both a health plan and a care system. In the Mid-Atlantic region, many members get most of their care from Kaiser’s own doctors and medical centers. For substance use and mental health treatment, Kaiser plans often ask members to start with Kaiser’s behavioral health team. That team may refer you to an in-network facility like the IAFF Center of Excellence or approve your care before admission.
Many fire departments and unions offer Kaiser plans, and benefits can differ from one group plan to the next. Your member ID card and plan documents list the rules for your plan.
Treatment You Can Ask Kaiser About
The IAFF Center of Excellence offers a full continuum of care built for fire fighters and EMS professionals, including detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient care and aftercare. Our programs treat substance use, alcohol use disorder and mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression and anxiety. Ask our team to check your Kaiser coverage for each level of care you may need.
Referrals and Prior Authorization
Many Kaiser plans require a referral, prior authorization or both before residential treatment or PHP begins. Our admissions team can contact Kaiser with you, find out what your plan needs and help get approvals in place before you arrive.
Questions to Ask About Your Kaiser Plan
- Do I need a referral from Kaiser before admission?
- Which levels of care need prior authorization?
- What are my deductible, copay and coinsurance for behavioral health care?
- Are there limits on days of residential care or outpatient sessions?
